Blue-footed Booby

9 Feb 09 -- Blue-footed Booby at Santispec Beach south of Mulege, Baja Mexico.

First Blue-footed Boobies I had seen close up so spent a long time setting in the kayak just below them and they didn't seem to mind.

Bald Eagle Chick

28 Mar 08 -- Taken at Roosevelt Lake northeast of Globe, AZ. A Bald Eagle Chick in the nest.

The parent can be seen standing next to the chick and is keeping guard. The nest tree was in standing water so the kayak came in handy. The Fish and Game Dept. had installed floats around the tree to keep everyone far away so the big lens paid for itself.

Mountain Bluebird

23 July 09 -- Centennial, WY



Taken while visiting friends in Centennial.  Summers are short at this high elevation.  "Bird on a wire" was just out the door of the Airstream.

Caracara, Crested

2 Jan 09 -- Crested Caaracara at Tecolote Beach south of La Paz, Baja Mexico.


Got this picture while on a three month trip to the Baja. Traveling back to Tecolote Beach where the Airtream was parked, got lucky and saw this bird looking to kill something, He was setting not thirty feet from the road.

Coata's Hummingbird

Some non-birders have commented that he has such long legs.  No, those are not his legs, he's setting on a wire hoop.
