Common Nighthawk

Lazuli Bunting
3 March 2014 -- Patagonia, AZ
Photo was taken in Mrs. Patton's backyard in Patagonia, AZ. Mrs. Patton, for many years kept the many seed and hummingbird feeders full and invited birders to visit her backyard at any time. I got lucky to meet her. She has passed away but there is a full time birding docent taking care of the place and and passing on birding identification and tips to the many birders who come to Mrs. Pattons ever day. A place not to be missed when you are down that way.
Clark's Grebe
30 May 2009 -- MaArthur, CA
This photo was taken at Ahjumawi State Park near the small towns of Fall River Mills and MaArthur, CA. Take note of the head marking of the Clark's, then take a look at the Western Grebe. The dark cap comes below the eye of the Western, not so on the Clarks and that is the only visible difference between the two.
Bald Eagle
27 June 2013 -- Homer, Alaska
![]() |
While on a summer RV trip of about four months up through Canada and the interior of Alaska I took many photos of the Bald Eagle. This one is the most striking of all. Taken with a long lens and with a look like that, I would not have wanted to be up-close. This was taken on the Homer Spit. This spit of land sticking out into the bay was home to the "Eagle Lady", who for many years fed the Eagles every day. After she recently passed away, the city fathers enacted a law of "No feeding the Eagles". That didn't stop the Eagles, they are omnipresent.
